Aren't we Racist?

I have been reading all this fuss about Shilpa Shetty being tormented by Jade Goody by her racist remarks from a week. I personally feel this episode has been uncalled for. She is not a child who complains to her mother if the fellow mates bully her. Didn't Shilpa Shetty thought of all this before signing the deal with the "Celebrity Big Brother”. She must have been been watching the Desi version "Big Boss" in India closely if she were planning of joining them. Wasn't she aware of all the bullying that happens in these reality shows. Moreover she withdrew her accusation within 24 hours, after all who would like to loose a handsome amount of 3,00,000 pounds sterling, she is being paid for her participation.

Beyond my expectations, this episode has invited comments from the ministers of both the countries involved ie India and Britain. Which minister cares when any ordinary citizen faces discrimination in any part of the world? I would like to ask do we have any right to express anguish over this. When our own house is not in order how can we blame others? We ourselves are racist at the core of our hearts. Racism has been prevailing in our country in myriad forms. There are divisions on the basis of religion, cast, place of origin, language, city, village, street, building....everything.

Many of India's one billion people still live within a hierarchy imposed by the Hindu caste system that, for example, stops low castes entering some important temples decades after such discrimination was outlawed.

We call any one from North East as "Chinkis". Lot of students come from these parts to study in North Campus, Delhi but they can't feel the place as their own country and suffer from every type of harassment here. For girls the situation is worse, people look at them as they are easily available.

The North Indians do not spare any moment and have been making fun of South Indian accent from a time immemorial. Thanks to the divide rooted in by the Britishers by their Aryan and Dravidian theories. There are differences on the issue of language between North and South. People from upper half ridicule the languages of the lower half. They feel Hindi should be made as a national language. The difference between the color of skin makes Northees feel superior. I am telling this as I belong to North and I am aware of this. I am not ridiculing north but people from south also tend to form their own groupings and treat people from North as outsiders. In fact there have been attacks on S/w Engineers from north here in Bangalore itself. They feel that we are snatching their share of jobs. But they don’t realize a large number of people from south have also migrated to cities in north for job opportunities.

From top of the country to the Kanyakumari u can find Kashmiris, Punjabis, Marathi, Bengali's, Assamese, Malayali's but u will hardly find any Indian. Rather we should be proud of so much diversity in our own India. There are 28 states and 7 UT's each with its own local language, dances, dresses and culture. These diversities should complement each other and not contradict each other. If everybody becomes respectful of each others' differences only then the India can become a better place to live and Indians be respected outside otherwise shame on us.

God created only human beings but how much ashamed he must be feeling when he himself sees from over the clouds that this creature has created everything ranging from boundaries, caste, religion etc to keep himself preoccupied with fighting, wars and all forms of discrimination.
